Google can get some sleep.
They are still king of the search engines. The latest threat has fallen short. Cuil who has billed itself has the world's largest search engine has not got mixed reviews. They were all bad. They claim to have indexed 120 billion sites and claim they are bigger than Google. It is estimated by people in the know that Google has over a trillion urls indexed so Cuil's claim may fall short.
Their performance falls even shorter. I tried it for my site clubhusband.com. The results were less than impressive. The allure of Cuil is supposed to not only be it's size but it also shows a picture with the listing. I didn't check all the sites on the web but the pictures it associated with my site were hit or miss - mostly missing.
Here is what a few other people have said;
"I tried it for an hour," wrote a commentator on the TG Daily Website. "Any multi-word search generated completely useless results, which seemed completely random. By contrast, Google comes up with quality, relevant results. Cuil works about as well as if I typed random URLs into the browser. Absolutely useless!"
Said a commentator on ChannelWeb's message board, "I just tried out Cuil and sadly, it failed to generate any results for my name and many other not so standard queries, whereas Google (NSDQ:GOOG), Yahoo (NSDQ:YHOO) and even MSN get many results accurately."
It is a new search site and like all new bisinesses we need to give then time. I will check it again periodically but if it doesn't show drastic improvement the term Cuiled is not going to replaced Googled in our vocabulary.
